Wedding Day Makeup: Tips and Trends

On your wedding day, there will be more pictures taken of you, than any other day of your life!

No matter what your style is, no matter what your budget is, every bride wants to look amazing on her wedding day. So what’s your beauty routine?  Not to worry; we’ve got all the bridal beauty tips and trends you need to look your best on your wedding day.

One of the best ways, if not the best way, to ensure that you look your best on your big day is to hire a professional makeup artist that you trust. But first let’s back up….a bride needs to keep in mind that how she looks on her wedding day begins long before that morning. You should start a beauty regime as early as possible.

Five to six months before your wedding is also a great time to start a regular skincare routine to help guarantee smooth, clear skin later down the road. Avoid getting a facial, waxing, or introducing any new products to your system less than a week or two before your wedding. You want to give your body time to adjust to any changes and give yourself time to heal from any bad reactions.

Here are some tips for achieving a picture perfect look for your "special" day:

* Always make sure your makeup look is classic so when you look at your pictures 10 years from now...you look timeless!
* Seek out a professional makeup artist at least six months in advance to lock them in.
* Tear out your favorite makeup looks from magazines for ideas.
* Request your Makeup Artist use water-proof products on your face to ensure a flawless, long-lasting look.
* Always request a trial run-through so you can approve of the overall look your Artist has created.
* Drink lots of H2O leading up to your big day.
* Wear a set of beautiful faux eyelashes to give your eyes a pop!

Don't forget your touch-up kit that you assign to a someone to carry around....just in case you need to add some color to your lips or you need to freshen up with a blot powder, or mints.

5 bummers to leave alone (credit: http://www.theknot.com/)

1. A Mole
If your doctor says it doesn't need to come off let it be. You may think you'd look better without it, but you never know how you're going to scar. Right before your wedding isn't the time to find out.
2. Freckles
You've always had them, and they're beautiful. Trying to cover them up requires an awful lot of foundation and concealer, which can make your glowing skin, look cakey.
3. Tan Lines
It takes a great deal of skill and time to make skin look even -- and usually, you can see it's been toyed around with. Is it really that big of a deal if your guests can tell you wear a watch when you're not getting married?
4. A Tattoo
If the butterfly on your shoulder doesn't go with your black-tie affair, wear a high-back gown instead of trying to get it removed with a laser. If no gown could hide your tattoo, cover it up with makeup, but know that it won't be perfectly hidden.
5. A Zit
We can't emphasize this enough: Don't touch it no matter what! Picked zits are hard to conceal, but makeup pros can work their magic to make unpicked ones seem to disappear

Questions to ask potential make-up artist

  1. If you should become sick on my day or can’t make it due to extreme emergency, can you provide a qualified back-up?
  2.  Do you contour the face?
  3. Do you offer airbrush technique?
  4. Be sure to inform the artist ahead of time if you suffer from severe acne. How will you camouflage my blemishes? What methods used?
  5. Do you offer trial run?
  6. Longevity; temperature sensitive, sweating, lights and stress: how will the product wear?
  7. Will you provide a contract for arrival time, departure time, services provided and total cost of services signed with a deposit before the wedding date?
  8. May I bring looks from magazines or websites?
  9. Make sure artist have a clean, well-assembled kit and take the time discussing your hairstyle, dress, jewelry, ceremony time of day, and other considerations that can impact your overall makeup look.
Now if you're planning on applying your own wedding day makeup, make sure you practice putting it own months before your wedding. Make sure you have enough concealer, bronzer, foundation, blush, shadows, liners, mascara and lipstick in your makeup bag.  You don’t want to find out the morning of that you ran out, or don't have enough, of something you really need.

Remember this day is ALL ABOUT YOU so be confident and put on your BEST FACE!

Happy Planning

  1. Flash photography emphasizes pink tones, so be sure to even out skin with a yellow-toned foundation. Start around the nose and mouth where there’s redness, then blend out to the rest of the face.
  2. Set concealer and foundation with Sheer Finish Loose Powder to make them longer-lasting and to ensure that skin looks matte in pictures.
  3. If your dress has an open neckline, be sure to warm up your neck and chest with a dusting of Bronzing Powder.
  4. Use a water-resistant liner that can withstand tears; try Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner applied with the Ultra Fine Eye Liner Brush. If you prefer to line with shadow, make it longer-lasting by applying it with a slightly damp Eye Liner Brush. Finish with a water-resistant mascara like Lash Glamour.
  5. After applying all your eye makeup, finish with a highlighter shade on the brow bone to make eyes pop. Rub your finger in a light matte shade and pat lightly on the outer corner of the brow bone.
  6. For a pretty flush that lasts, use two shades of Blush. First, apply a neutral shade on the apples of cheeks, blending up into the hairline, then downwards to soften. Then apply a brighter shade just on the apples of cheeks.
  7. Neutral and pale lip colors look washed out in photographs, so choose a lipstick that’s one to two shades brighter than what you normally wear. Pinks, roses and plums are great choices for brides.
  8. To make Lip Color last longer, line and fill in lips with Lip Pencil before applying your lipstick.
  9. Carry a touch-up kit with concealer, pressed powder, lipstick or gloss, lip liner, tissues, mints, and a mini sewing kit (for emergency clothing fixes like a dropped hem or popped button).
  10. Have fun!
