Pantone Color of the Year for 2012: Tangerine Tango

The esteemed Pantone Color Institute®, recently announced it's 2012 Color of the Year, Tangerine Tango #17-1463 TCX.

"Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it," said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. 

So YES, orange is in.  This beautiful color has grown in popularity and has been turning up everywhere. There has been acceptance among designers and consumers, therefore has been been used in interiors, fashion, and lifestyle.  You can scan just about any magazine. 

Also, for the first time, Sephora is partnering with Pantone to launch the first Color of the Year beauty collection. The limited edition collection features a variety of products including eye shadow, lipstick, lip gloss, nail polish and accessories, and will be available in Sephora Americas beginning March 2012.


What does this mean for us in the wedding/event designing world?!?

Well you can surely believe The Dessy Group, is certainly headed for some Tangerine Tango bridemaid dresses and accessories.  However, just because Pantone chooses its color of the year doesn't necessarily means it will be the "Wedding Color Of the Year".  Case in point this year, Pantone's color choice was Honeysuckle, but the most popular wedding color of 2011 were shades of Purple. According to wedding industry experts, the black and white color trend will continue, mixed with a pop of color. Tangerine Tango perhaps?

As you can see 2012 is going to be full of fun, vivacious colors. I LOVE IT!!! Here is a little bit of color inspiration for incorporating Tangerine Tango color into your wedding.

Friday's Fantastic Find ~ Figgie Shoes

I am please to feature a unique vendor: Figgie Shoes.  I actually came across this "Fantastic Find" a few months ago and I'm just now getting around to featuring them.

Figgie Shoes, created by Deborah (also known as Figgie!), are custom hand painted shoes for special events, especially bridal. Their purpose is to try and explain, in picture and personality, who you are, to anyone who happens to be looking. 

As part of the process, almost any shoe can be transformed into Figgie Shoes, just as long as there is some area to paint.  There are a few limitations such as fabric type. The shoe CAN NOT be patent leather. Other than that, any style or color will work.

The base price for a pair of shoes includes a completely customized design in Classic Black & White, including up to 12 personalized items or text.
Deborah will ask you to make a list of items, people or places that are special to you or she can custom make a pattern for your pair of shoes. 
Popular items include portraits of you and your fiancee`, emblems, significant locations, and keepsakes.

Engagement Season is Coming! Popping the Question?

     Ladies be sure to pass this post along to all your male friends, brothers or your significant otherJ

What woman doesn’t dream of the day, and the way, that her one and only drops to one knee and sweeps her off her feet?  How, when and where you propose to the one you love is a memory that will last a lifetime. .. So you had better get it right!

Proposals are at their peak around the holidays, with one in four grooms popping the question in December. Ironically, statistics also show December has a spike in break-ups? Is this a coincidence? Maybe not. A bad proposal can mean the end of a relationship, and it's not always obvious what's bound to backfire. Before you bite the bullet, educate yourself on how not to pop the question.

Popular times for guys to pop the question: Christmas, New Year’s Eve, New Years Day and Valentine’s Day. These are the very obvious ones.

Timing is everything and when you ask your future bride for her hand in marriage is just as important as how you do it.  One of the most popular times to pop the question is on the anniversary of the day you met.  The fact that you remember that fateful day holds great significance and will be that much easier to remember when you are married! Holidays, birthdays or any special date that has meaning to either of you, are perfect times to propose.

A few great ideas are skywriting, skydiving, hot air balloon rides during sunset, fireworks in her honor, go back where it all began is an amazing way to propose, a mountain-top proposal, romantic picnic, old-fashioned serenade with a small band, write a message in the sand and outline it with candles followed by a romantic beach picnic for two is a wonderful ways to get a yes. Underwater proposal have become popular proposals as well.

One very important thing to consider is whether to propose in front of an audience or one-on-one.  You really need to gauge her personality to make sure you don’t miss the mark on that one.  If you decide to purchase the ring before popping the question, definitely make sure it’s the ring of her dreams, otherwise consider the idea of letting her pick out her own ring.   Now if you can’t fathom the last idea then how about allowing her to choose her top three rings and you make the final choice and surprise her with that.

A few more important things to remember to make the proposal complete:

Make sure you test the waters; meaning, before you propose the two of you should talk about the possibility of marriage. Believe me; you don’t want her to be completely off guard. I really don’t think you want to hear her say, “Um, let me think about it.” Make sure it’s something you both want. Be sure to also discuss major issues that come with marriage, like children.

Make sure you talk to her parents. Although we’ve come a long way of needing our parents’ permission to marry, there is still is something nice and respectful asking for the parent’s blessing.

Make sure you drop to One knee.  I know we’re in a new era, but there’s something so charming, sweet and romantic about a man on one knee asking the love of his life to marry him. Even if you’re not the traditional guy, it will add to the sincerity and lovingness of the proposal.

During the proposal, make sure you tell her why you want to marry her. Don’t just utter the those 4 little words. Let her know why she’s the one, what marriage means to you and your hope for your future.

Keeping  these guidelines in mind when proposing can ease anxiety, give you confidence and get you one step closer to turning your "Will you" into an "I Do".
